The Target Light 670 has been independently tested by the LIA Laboratory in the UK, an accredited testing facility operated by the Lighting Industry Association.
Irradiance was measured using a Bentham IDR300 double monochromator to standard EN 62471:2008, with readings taken at eight distances from 10cm to 150cm. Flicker was tested to PD IEC TR 63158:2018 and confirmed at 1.03% with a flicker index of 0.
Unlike many red light therapy devices that rely on in house testing, every irradiance and flicker figure on this page is independently verified by a UK laboratory.

670nm red light is one of the most extensively studied wavelengths in photobiomodulation research. It sits near the peak absorption point of cytochrome c oxidase, a key enzyme in mitochondrial energy production. Peer reviewed studies suggest this wavelength may support skin health, eye comfort, and sleep quality. Research from institutions including University College London has explored the role of 670nm light in supporting cellular function, particularly in retinal cells where mitochondrial activity is especially high.

I bought the Target Light 670 after it was recommended to me by a friend. My intention was to use it for improving eye health, as well as reducing the amount of redness in my face which has become more apparent in the last 12 months. However, since I unpacked it 7 days ago, I have only been using it so far on an inflamed ankle (long-term injury) and the relief that has resulted is quite incredible. Of course, it may well be a case of 'beginner's luck' but the faith I now have in this device has skyrocketed!
I use the Target Light 670nm product, it arrived almost two weeks ago, and I've been using it every morning for eye health since then. We'll see how it works. The product is a solid, quality piece, with a power cord and switch. It uses an E27 socket, and can even be used as a table lamp. For me, the 65 cm distance is not enough, and I sit further away from it because the lamp has a strong light.
Can’t say it did anything for me after a week of regular use. Not sure how long you need to wait for results? Also noticed slight burning of the skin just after a few minutes of exposure at the advised distance, it felt as if burnt by the Sun. My skin felt dry the next day. I bought two units for me and my partner but he had no intention of using it, so I arranged a return of his unit. FYI postage is paid by the customer and I’m also still waiting for my refund even though it’s been a week since they’ve received the package back. Emails received re the refund don’t come across very friendly and I had to contact them to find out what’s going on with my refund. Wouldn’t recommend.

The red light itself looks very good, I used it once now and it is quite good! Since it came from GB to Germany I expected that it needs more time than usual. But I ordered it mid April and it came End of August, sorry I receive things from South Korea, they come after one month but 4,5 month?? And yes they offered me a 10% discount, kind but under that circumstance not enough, sorry for not being sorry!
I followed your protocol in a conservative way (not very near or long exposure) to treat my eyes (closed). The effect after two treatments is very blurred vision in one eye that is not going away.
It took a very long time till it finally was delivered after a waiting period of 3 month. But apart this we all here are really satisfied and fascinated by the soothing and beneficial effects of using the red light lamp. Thanxx, it`s a good product.

01Why does the Target Light 670 only have one wavelength?−
After University College London published research by Professor Glen Jeffery showing that 670nm red light may support mitochondrial function in retinal cells, we received a significant number of requests for a device offering this specific wavelength on its own.
Many customers wanted the precision of a single, well researched wavelength without the additional near infrared wavelengths found in our other devices. The Target Light 670 was designed to meet that demand.
It is worth noting that other red wavelengths in the 630nm to 660nm range are also well studied for skin and eye wellness, so if you are looking for a multi wavelength device, the Target Light 2.0 or Target Light 3.0 may be a better fit.
02What is special about 670nm compared to other red light wavelengths?+
670nm sits very close to the peak absorption point of cytochrome c oxidase, a key enzyme involved in cellular energy production. This wavelength gained widespread attention following the UCL research by Professor Glen Jeffery, which explored its potential role in supporting retinal cell function.
In practice, neighbouring wavelengths like 630nm and 660nm also perform well for skin and eye wellness, and there is strong published research supporting all three.
The reason 670nm became our most requested single wavelength device is largely because of the visibility and credibility of that particular study. If your goal is primarily skin care or general red light therapy, any of our devices using red wavelengths in the 630nm to 670nm range may support your needs.
03Is it safe to use the Target Light 670 near my eyes and how far away should I hold it?+
The Target Light 670 emits visible red light at 670nm, which is a wavelength that has been used in published eye wellness research.
For face and eye sessions, we recommend positioning the device anywhere from 20cm to 65cm away from your face, with eyes open or gently closed, whichever feels most comfortable for you. Closer distances deliver higher irradiance for skin care, while further distances provide a gentler exposure suitable for general eye comfort.
Each session should last 5 to 10 minutes. If you experience any discomfort, simply increase the distance or shorten the session time.
The device has been independently tested for flicker by the UK Lighting Industry Association and confirmed as flicker free, which is particularly important for use near the eyes.

04What is the difference between the Target Light 670, Target Light 2.0, Target Light 3.0, and Target Light 4.0?+
Each device in the Target Light range is designed for a different use case.
The Target Light 670 is a single wavelength device (670nm red light only) designed primarily for face, eye comfort, skin care, and sleep support. It is mains powered via an E27 screw fitting, lightweight at 300g, and is our most affordable handheld device at £119. It is ideal if you want a simple, focused red light therapy routine without near infrared wavelengths.
The Target Light 2.0 adds a second wavelength — 660nm red and 850nm near infrared. The near infrared wavelength penetrates deeper into tissue, which means it may provide support for joints, muscles, and deeper cellular wellness in addition to the surface level skin and eye benefits. It is also mains powered and is a good choice if you want both red and near infrared light in a single handheld device.
The Target Light 3.0 is our most advanced portable handheld. It features three wavelengths (660nm, 810nm, and 850nm), a rechargeable lithium ion battery, touchscreen controls for brightness and wavelength selection, and comes with an adjustable stand and carry case. 05Can I use the Target Light 670 on my body, not just my face?+
Yes. The 670nm wavelength may support general skin wellness anywhere on the body. You can use it on your neck, chest, hands, or any area where you would like to support skin wellness.
However, because the Target Light 670 only emits visible red light and does not include near infrared wavelengths, it is not designed for deep tissue support.
If you are looking for a handheld device that may also support joints, muscles, or deeper tissue wellness, consider the Target Light 2.0 or the Target Light 3.0, both of which include near infrared wavelengths.
06What does flicker free mean and why does it matter?+
Flicker refers to rapid, often invisible fluctuations in light output caused by the way some LED devices handle electrical current. Even when flicker is not visible to the eye, it can contribute to eye strain, headaches, and general discomfort, particularly during close range facial use.
The Target Light 670 has been independently tested by the UK Lighting Industry Association and confirmed as flicker free, with a flicker index of 0. This is especially important for a device designed to be used near the face and eyes.
Many competitors do not publish flicker data at all, so if you are comparing devices, we recommend asking for independently verified flicker test results.
07How do I know the irradiance figures are accurate?+
All irradiance figures for the Target Light 670 were measured by the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) Laboratory in the UK, an independent accredited testing facility.
The testing was conducted using a Bentham IDR300 double monochromator to standard EN 62471:2008, and the full results are published in LIA Report L19724A.
We provide irradiance readings at six distances from 10cm to 67cm so you can see exactly what the device delivers at your preferred treatment distance.
Many red light therapy brands publish only a single irradiance figure at one distance, often measured in house. We believe independent, multi distance testing gives you a more honest and complete picture of what you are buying.
08What are the EMF levels on the Target Light 670?+
At 15cm treatment distance, the Target Light 670 measures 0.2 mG magnetic field and 128 V/m electric field using a TriField TF2 EMF meter.
The magnetic field — which is the primary EMF measurement most people are concerned about — is excellent at 0.2 mG. That is well under the Building Biology "no concern" threshold of 1 mG.
The electric field reading of 128 V/m is the highest of any device in our range. We want to be upfront about that. This is caused by the less shielded power supply design in this entry level handheld. To put it in context, typical household electric fields range from 1 to 100 V/m in most living spaces, but can spike to several hundred V/m at close range to unshielded wiring, chargers, and certain appliances. The TL 670's reading falls within this range. It does not indicate a safety concern — the device operates well within regulatory limits — but if you are specifically trying to minimise electric field exposure, the battery operated Target Light 3.0 produces zero detectable EMF across all measurement modes.
It's worth bearing in mind that every electronic device you use in daily life produces some level of EMF — your phone, your TV, your kettle, your fridge, your Bluetooth headphones, your fitness tracker. EMF is a normal part of modern life and virtually impossible to avoid entirely. The additional EMF exposure from a red light therapy session is small in the context of everything else you're already exposed to, and we believe the wellness benefits of consistent use far outweigh any concern about the modest EMF levels involved.
